The main concern that women have when pregnant is to avoid all activities that could lead to miscarriages. However, the truth is that to stay healthy doctors recommend that even pregnant women should exercise in moderate amounts. Exercises such as walking and swimming are considered the best in pregnancy. Before pregnant women start their exercising it is important they consult their gynecologist and get confirmation from them if they can exercise depending on how smooth their pregnancy is.

A study conducted in 2019 showed findings that moderate exercising during pregnancy does not have a relation to increased chances of miscarriages in women.
Exercising during pregnancy can have benefits such as reduction in back pain, decreasing swelling in the body, better sleep, freeing oneself from stress and anxiety, and help in easy labor. In general, pregnant women who have no complications should aim to exercise for 2 hours every week. Always listen to your body! If you are sweating too much or are too tired to talk it may indicate that you need to slow down or reduce your exercise time.

The best exercises in pregnancy apart from walking and swimming is yoga designed especially for pregnant women. Yoga helps to practice breathing techniques that can come in handy during labor to manage pain. In the earlier months, it is easier to work out and even follow some gym routines but in the last trimester the baby bump gets bigger and there are only a few exercises one can do.

For pregnant women, life should go on as it was before. Exercising is a normal part of life and if your doctor gives you the go-ahead there shouldn’t be a reason to skip exercise.
