Exercising without having breakfast seems to be a trend nowadays, but does this really work to burn more fat? Many people believe that doing cardio on an empty stomach helps to generate a greater caloric deficit; this is not true and we explain why.

When you are fasting, your insulin and glycogen levels will be lower. So if you exercise, then your body will be able to burn more calories, this is correct. However, there is a difference between burning calories and losing body fat.

Different experiments have been carried out where one group of people exercises after breakfast and another group performs fasted cardio, both with the same diet. The results were conclusive: both groups lost the same amount of body fat. All this tells us that it is useless to exercise on an empty stomach if it is not complemented by a balanced diet.

Body fat loss will only occur if we burn or oxidize more calories than we consume during the day. For example, ketogenic diets consist of consuming foods that help you synthesize enzymes to metabolize body fat, but they do not ensure a caloric deficit. To carry out a diet like this, we recommend you consult a nutritionist who is an expert on the subject.

In conclusion, we can say that doing fasted cardio is not better than exercising after eating, this is a myth that science has disproved. Exercising without eating in the morning will only depend on you and the time you have available to do this activity.
