A week before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Kyiv was known as a European city of golden-domed cathedrals gleaming at night. The nights were young in that city of Ukraine. The brightly-lit restaurants were serving steaming bowls of borsch behind frosty winter windows.
But the war leads to the collapse of society. This conflict disrupts the beautiful nights of the city and leads to considerable damage and destruction of infrastructure. The war created insecurity and had a major economic impact.
UN human rights office reported the deaths of 136 Ukrainian civilians so far. The war also affected the health of people. The Russian invasion of Ukraine certainly brings disastrous suffering and health consequences for the Ukrainian citizens.
Disturbance in the Health System
The war badly damages the health infrastructure like hospitals and clinics, which leads to problems in the health system. The growing patient loads in hospitals lead to the flight of health staff.
The stocks of drugs in hospitals are quickly consumed, mainly items required to treat war injuries, like blood products, antibiotics, and dressings. This rapid consumption caused a deficiency of these items. According to World Health Organization, the medical oxygen supplies in Ukraine are perilously low.
The war-affected the hospitals and disrupted primary care, screening, and immunization programs.
Economic Sanctions
It can generate social disturbance and material deficiency. It also leads to a lack in the availability of drugs, vaccines, and other health equipment. Expanded economic sanctions can lead to severe problems in the country.
The conflict considerably affected the health and economy of the country. We hope it all ends soon.
