I recently started exercising, and other than getting tired, I also lose my breath a lot faster than my fellows. If you have the same issue, you would definitely be interested in knowing the reason behind it.

Well, the most common reason is weak muscles. Usually, when we don’t use our muscles much, they weaken. And then when we start working out or do strenuous exercise after a long period, our muscles need time to adapt. Now, the weak muscles also include your breathing muscles. Being weak, they need more oxygen to work and, thus, make you go out of breath.

How Can You Reduce the Shortness of Breath?

The shortness of breath goes away with time. When your muscles and lungs get strong enough, they don’t need a lot of oxygen to work, and thus, you stop losing breath. But there are a few things that you can do to reduce your shortness of breath in a short time.

  1. Warm-up Your Body: Before starting your proper exercising routine, do a warm-up session. It helps your body become more active and alert.
  2. Practice Different Breathing Techniques: They can help you hold your breath longer and make your lungs stronger. The breathing techniques may include alternate nostril breathing, diaphragmatic breathing, and different yoga exercises.
  3. Don’t Push Your Body Too Much In The Beginning: When you start hitting the gym, your body needs time to get used to the workouts. You need to wait and be patient until your body is ready for hard workout sessions. If you start pushing it too much in the beginning, it will do no good for your breathing.

These tips will help you overcome your breathing issues. However, being patient is always the first step in regard. Moreover, if your breath is uncontrollably out of control, it might be due to a medical problem. In that case, visit a doctor and have a proper checkup.
