After working out at home for some period of time, you may face a question that a lot of people face: How can I improve my training to get even better results? The first option would be to get a gym membership and train with the help of gym machines OR buy additional equipment to make the workouts a bit harsher and sweatier.

Once you chose the second option, you may face the next question: What to buy? Dumbbells or resistance band? I want to emphasize the benefits of the second one and why you should try them.

Let’s start from the practical side — they are really cheap alternative to expensive free weights. Of course, the price depends on the type of resistance bands. Amazon shows that the less expensive set costs approximately $10-11 and the most expensive start from $30-40. If you think it’s a lot, for dumbbells you’ll pay $1.50 – $2 per pound of weight.

Plus, when you buy a set of resistance bands, there are a few resistance levels you may increase with time. By adding resistance, you work for progression and beat your personal best.

If you wonder whether it’s possible to gain muscle mass and tone with resistance bands, the answer will be YES! Actually, it’s one of their main benefits. Yet don’t expect the same results the weights can deliver because they are more high-impact and put your muscle under more strain. If you have a super big goal to grow a lot of muscles, start with a band and then move to weights, when mastering the first.

How does it work? For example, when you do squats with no weight, your muslces get the most tension when you push yourself out of the squat into a standing position. When you use a resistance band, your muscles will need to push through its additional resistance and, thus, work harder.

If you wonder whether you can lose weight with resistance bands, the answer will be also YES. Any kind of workout where you force yourself to go beyond your limits and burn calories leads to weight loss. And training with a band is really more difficult than without it, believe me! Along with the proper diet and enough water in your body, you’ll definitely see the desired results.

Resistant bands are really multifunctional when compared with gym machines. You can stretch them in any way you want and perform a great variety of exercises. Thanks to them, you’ll always stay tuned. Moreover, it’s good for any fitness level whether you’re a professional or a beginner.
